Proponents of experiential learning often refer to active learning, and by this phrase they refer to the participatory nature of experiential learning; learners take an active role in their own learning, and this often also implies that learners have to take some responsibility for their own learning and advancement of understanding.
Active learning ไม่ได้เป็นแต่เพียงการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ให้ผู้เรียนวิ่งไปวิ่ง ขยัยโยกย้ายร่างการเท่านั้น ยังต้องจัดกิจกรรมและภารกิจการเรียนรู้ให้ผู้เรียนได้ตื่นตัวทางสมองและปัญญา โดยอาจสร้างภารกิจให้นักเรียนได้ค้นหาอย่างมีอป้าหมา การร่วมกันวิเคราะห์ สังเคราะห์ ตลอดจนการสรุปเชื่อมโยงลงสู่หลักการและการนำไปใช้แก้ปัญหาหรือช่วยในการใช้ชีวิตในสภาพจริงได้ แบบนี้แหละจึงเรียกว่า Active Learning!!
